Programs are designed with communities and delivered in collaboration with schools, government institutions, civil society and development partners.
Expanding access to safe, quality and inclusive education for children, young people and adults in rural communities, displacement settings and underserved schools.
Helping schools provide safe drinking water, improved sanitation and hygiene practices so learners—especially adolescent girls—can attend with health and dignity.
Protecting children’s rights and well-being through community structures, safe learning spaces, feedback systems, referral pathways and child-centred programming.
Addressing the barriers that prevent girls and women from learning, participating and accessing equal opportunities at school and in public life.
Building the skills, confidence and economic opportunities of women and young people, with particular attention to young women, displaced people, returnees and host communities.
Using schools and community networks to increase awareness of reproductive health, HIV prevention, comprehensive sexuality education and healthy life choices.
Reducing the effects of hunger, malnutrition and household vulnerability on children’s participation and achievement in education.
Generating evidence and working with government, civil society, communities and education actors to influence policy and reduce the causes of exclusion and marginalization.
Working with faith communities, churches, traditional leaders, women and youth to promote dialogue, peaceful coexistence and schools as zones of peace.
Strengthening school and public institutions through community participation, capacity development, civic education, accountability and policy engagement.

How We Work
HESS mobilizes communities, trains local educators and leaders, builds institutional capacity, strengthens partnerships and uses innovative approaches to deliver relevant services. Communities participate in analysis, planning, implementation and monitoring.
Partner with HESS to design and deliver locally grounded programs in South Sudan.
