HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) was pleased to participate in the official launch of the Accelerated Primary Education Programme for Teachers (APEPT) at the premises of the National Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI), Republic of South Sudan.
The launch marks an important step towards strengthening teacher qualifications and improving the quality of education in South Sudan.
What is APEPT?
The Accelerated Primary Education Programme for Teachers (APEPT) is designed to address long-standing gaps in teachers' academic credentials that have resulted from decades of conflict and disruption to education.
The programme condenses the four-year Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) curriculum into two years, creating an accelerated pathway for serving teachers who have practical classroom experience but have not had the opportunity to complete the formal education qualifications required for further professional development.
APEPT bridges teachers' existing classroom experience with formal academic qualifications and prepares participating teachers to sit for the national Certificate in Primary Education (CPE) examinations.
Successful completion can also open pathways for teachers to continue their education through the Accelerated Secondary Education Programme and eventually access teacher training institutions, supporting their long-term professional growth.
Bringing APEPT to Yirol East County
As an implementing partner of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Girls Education Accelerator (GEA), HESS will support the rollout and implementation of APEPT in Yirol East County, Lakes State.
For HESS, investing in teachers is fundamental to improving learning outcomes. Teachers are at the centre of every classroom, and strengthening their knowledge, qualifications and professional opportunities contributes directly to better and more inclusive learning experiences for children.
The programme represents an important opportunity for teachers who have continued serving their communities despite limited opportunities to advance their formal education.
